If you are in immediate danger, leave the area if it is safe to do so and call 911 (or your local emergency services). PALE is not designed for emergency situations.
PALE is a pilot coping application for individuals living with traumatic or acquired brain injury (TBI/ABI), caregivers, and family members.
The PALE Method helps you reduce stress and mental fatigue during stressful or unfamiliar situations using four steps: Pause, Adapt, Learn, and Engage.
This application is not intended to replace emergency services, counselling, psychotherapy, or medical treatment.
Version 1.0 (Pilot)
Have you used the PALE Method?
This is for research only. It does not change the PALE Method order.
PALE will guide you through four steps: Pause, Adapt, Learn, Engage.
PAUSE
Breathe in for 7 seconds. Hold for 7 seconds. Breathe out for 7 seconds.
PAUSE
PAUSE
Look around and find:
ADAPT
Choose one thing to try. If it is not possible, PALE will help you find another way.
ADAPT
ADAPT
Take a moment to try the change.
You are not looking for perfect. Even a small improvement can help.
ADAPT
That option not working does not mean you failed. It just means we need another way.
ADAPT
Notice what changed, even if it was small.
Remember what worked. You may be able to use it again in a similar situation.
LEARN
You do not need every answer. Choose the part that would help you decide what to do next.
LEARN
Reliable information first: if facts matter, start with the person or service involved, your healthcare or rehabilitation team, or another trusted official source. You do not need to search everything right now.
ENGAGE
You can return whenever you need support.
